I am thinking (really, really hard) about getting a Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Mag.

I have the following questions:

Can you get this gun ported?
Would you recommend doing it?
If yes, who would you recommend do it?
Approximately what is the cost?
How will this effect accuracy?

I guess I can answer only one of your questions...I wouldn't get it done.

I have a SRH 44 Magnum and I shoot some pretty hefty 320 grain cast bullet loads from it and recoil has never been a major problem.

I really have never been a fan of altering factory handguns/rifles in that I think they hold there value a bit better unaltered. Plus, I am always sceptical of an altered weapon...Just my opinion. Good-luck with the SRH...BCB

I agree with BCB, I have a SRH and its plenty heavy for a 44 mag. No need to port it. KN

I have a Super BlackHawk Hunter 44 mag and use HOt Hunting handloads and the recoil is controlable. Get some Hogue Monogrips and that will do. I don't think you would have to worry about porting a SRH. Just my opinion.

I have a super red hawk, 44 mag with 7-1/2 inch barrel. Recoil is not difficult. I shoot 100-200 rounds a week and is not a problem.

I would be concerned of the additional noise from porting.

I shoot unique powder and 240 grain swc and 240 grain jacketed hollow cav.

This gun is very accurate for me.

You could have the gun ported later if it is a problem.

Another possibility is a 41 magnum?

Gringo Hunter......you mentioned the Hogue Monogrips. I have them on my S&W 686 and love them and I am certainly considering them for a furture SRH.

Just to compare and contrast, can anyone shed some light on the Pachmayr Decelerator Grips?

I also have a SRH, .44mag, and my recomendation would also be not to port it. If recoil is your reason for considering this, you might try shooting a more moderate load, especially at the range, to tone it down. Works for me... :grin:

I don't see a NEED to port either. it does make it louder. A lot louder! but w/o ports would probably do you just fine
