Yugo ammo powder question for the reloaders.
«

Can anyone tell me what US powder equivalent would be to the 50's vintage Yugo Milsurp ball ammo that Century Arms is selling (or probably any one else as well). I am curious what 50's era powder they use and how close is it to any common US smokeless powder.
Thanks

Fort Myers - tricky question there ol buddy. 1950s mil-surp european ammo was most likely loaded to WWII German 8mm military specs - a 196-200 gn bullet at somewhere around 2500+'/sec. You won't find any loading like that in the US powder listings, you probably have to use Vitha Vuori Oy loadings or Norma loadings for equivalent power level loadings.
American ammo and powder makers really played down the european cartridges, loading the 8mm Mauser to below 30-30 power levels when it really stands on par with the 06, so I doubt you will find much info on comparative or equivalent powder charges and power levels. I would look to european powders and loads. VithaVuori Oy is the first to come to mind. HTH. Mikey.

If you just want a 50's era, common US smokeless powder that will work great in 8mm Mauser, try H or IMR 4064 using loads from a good manual.

Some of that COLD WAR era powder is some really strange
looking stuff. I have seen Green, dark blue, cream colored,
flake, square, ball powder! It would be really difficult to ID this stuff.
