Taming the Tomahawk

Hi-I have a Webley Tomahawk in .177 calibre and an HW95 in the same calibre. Now I appreciate these rifles have different charachteristics when it come to hold etc. But straight out of the box the HW would shoot really sweet 1/2" holes at 20-30 metres using normal sights. Put a Nikko Sterling 2-7 scope on and it took only a couple of minor adjustments to achieve the same or better result. The Webley I feel can be just as accurate but I have problems (one of which I will put in another post). I can always achieve good accuracy with the HW off-hand but I think the Webley needs a diiferent kind of hold or something to get similar results-it currently has a Hawke 3-9 HD scope(not the best I admit). I'm quite tall with a long arm reach and tend to reach much more forward with the L arm to steady the Tommy. while I can pick up the HW just cradle it and straight into the bull every time.  One thing I have found is that for me a paper target for sighting in is only partially successful. When I point the rifle at a "small point" ie. the tack pinning the target to the timber I always get better results.  Once the tack has been well and truly nailed a couple of times I know I'm sighted in.
Any Tomahawk owners out there who can help, feel free to give me some tips.

I can only offer how mine likes to be shot.  Left hand placed just at the back of the split in the bottom of the forend, and supported at the wrist only enough to balance, with almost no contact on the shoulder.  I have to be careful with the location of my left hand, as to not put any pressure on either side of the stock.  The left hand acts as a vertical support only.  This is a little more difficult to get used to at first, due to the forend being fairly wide on the Tommy.  After a little practice the hold becomes intuitive.  With this hold my tommy is a real tack driver.

There is a difference between the two rifle.  The Webley Tomahawk is more powerful than the HW95/Beeman R-9.  The Tomahawk requires a lighter touch.  Rest the foregrip on your hand and don't grab it.  Only apply enough pressure to the pistol grip to control the rifle.  Do not apply to much pressure to the shoulder and barely touch your face to the stock.  I know there is only 100 fps. difference between the two but in air rifles that can be a bunch.  Go to http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=51815 and read the article I posted about shooting springer rifles accurately.   Lawdog
