Looking at loading some reduced youth loads in a 30-30 1800-2000fps
lookin at 125 to 150 gr bullet. prefer flat based but open to all ideas. shots max 75 yrd on deer. Also would like to use this bullet at full house loads for myself as well. I have some ideas just thought I would see if anyone had tried these or have any sugjestions I have not thought of before I get to the press

you might want to try the nosler 125 BT. i think they would open up good at those vol. worth a try.

75 yd max on deer, light and heavy loads in 30-30?
Sounds like you want 130-150gr round nose or flat nose soft point 30-30 bullet, Remington, Speer, and Winchester make them. I think the Speer is the only 130gr.
Hornady makes a 130gr spire point for contender pistols, would do nicely too.

speer 130-grainer, or plain ol' 150-grain .30-30 hollow point.

I suggest picking up a Lyman 48th edition reloading manual for youself......they have a good selection of different powders to use to get you to those velocity ranges your wanting...they have both jacketed and cast bullet loads in it...they also have some very mild gallery loads as well....simalar to the ones I sent you... :wink:

When you want some data on what I was getting with my old Topper with the Hornady 130 grain and the Sierra's 125 pm me...and I'll give you a call...

thanks guys a few new idea's in the reply's, This is mostly for my son he thinks he wants to try & get him a deer this year, I have a shortened stock with good pad on it. He does shoot my 223 & Ak steal butt off a standing bench(prob as much as he can handle) so a mild to mid range 3030 should do the job

Mac I'll order one of those manuals I have been needing a new one!! Hven't got to shoot the new 3030 yet I have been busy with things but have some days off the end of next week :grin: & i'll give it a go. I'll get with you after I shoot up some factory loads in it & see how it does need brass & this believe it or not is my very 1st 3030 also have a new to me winchestercanadian centenial to shoot so it may be a 3030 kind of day next week :grin:

well, taking a 150 down to 2000 is not that much reduced. How big is he? Maybe a 2300 fps factory 150 would work ok.

Is this for a Handi?

Might consider a cast 180 GC at 1700 fps?
