Shot the New Vaquaro .45!
« on: April 20, 2005, 10:04:26 AM »
Well, you can put me on the list for one of these!  Although just a little heavier than my Colt, it still balanced and handled very well.  I didn't get a chance to shoot this one for group but it seemed to shoot where you put the sights (although slightly low - easy to fix!)  I'm impressed with the overall fit and finish and feel of the gun.  The smaller grip frame and narrower grips are a definate improvement.  (although I did keep trying to put it on half cock to load)  I also like the new hammer shape.  Overall, a definate improvement on the old model.  (wonder if the old ones will be cheap on the used market as everyone flocks to the new model)  It still seems plenty strong.  I would think you could use 255 gr flat nose at 1000 fps as a woods load forever and never worry about abusing the gun.  I would (will) use one of these as a woods walking gun in the near future.  Now I just got to get them to build one in .44 spl!  44 Man

Didn't Ruger quit making the 44 Magnum Bisley Vaquero because of this change in the frame?  I bought a brand new stainless Bisely Vaquero in 44 and will probably shoot just 44 Specials through it.  I have two other 44 Special revolvers, but am always looking for more family members.

Well time to hear from ole VOL. I bought a Ruger "new" Vaquero last week. I was looking for a SA clone and got this one. Took it to a pal who only ones Colts for his opinion. He fired 4 full cylindres at a 5 inch stump about 35 feet away and hit the dang thing every time but twice. (his first two shots) He was very impressed with the fit, finish, and accuracy. His only complaint was the trigger. It didn't break crisply. Naturally I took it to my smith right to have a trigger job and to polish the cylinder latch and check timing. I shot it myself and off hand at 25 feet coke cans stood no chance. I plan on loading mainly shot shells for rats in it. Boys, now thats real hunting. Any one got any good midrange load for this one, i'm not looking for max power, I have a .44 mag and a .454 for that. This Ruger is to be my every day iron for mostly rats. Any data on shot caps for a 45 LC?

I love this pistol, one cock of the hammer and I was in love.

44Man

I'm envious of you fellers that live close to civilization and can run down town and see, buy, and enjoy your selves MUST BE NICE. I haven't had a chance to see one of the new Ruger Vaqueros yet but hear they are pretty neat. Ought to be a neat little rig to carry. You are going to have to break some of your old habits 44man, They ARE not colts you know. Have a good day 44man  :D .......Joe..........
