Encore in 300 Win Mag
« on: April 18, 2005, 09:14:23 AM »
I have a friend seriously considering getting a TC in 300 WM.  I thought I had read of problems with the Encore in magnum calibers, is this true?

Should he avoid the TC's in this caliber and buy a bolt gun?

He is pretty well set on the 300 Win Mag, so the gun is the only unknown.

Thanks.

I have one and it works great and very accurate. Not one problem with it with over 300 rounds of shooting.  :D

Thanks,
I was getting ready to bump this but opened and and saw your reply, but I don't think it counted it.  Does it not count moderators replies?

Anyone else have any issues with the 300 Win Mag in the TC?

scope

I think the big problem people have with all rifles is the scope. You can put a $50. scope on a $1000. rifle and all you can expect is $50. accuracy. I put out as much or more for the scope as the rifle. Just my thoughts.

I have a 26" win mag, and my only complaint is the recoil.  Sure wish I had the heavier wood stock and a better recoil pad on    I'm a big guy...but my shoulder sure feels it after 5 or 6 shots.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

On my 300 Win Mag barrel for my Encore I have an IOR Valdada 3.5X10X56mm scope. The Scope cost more than the Barrel, frame and thumbhole stock put together. I don't skimp on optics on any of my guns.  :D

i took a 26" heavy factory 300win mag and cut it down to 16.5" for use as a handgun.  then a  OTT "shark gill" muzzle brake from "on target technologies" was added bringing total length to 18.5". the muzzle brake really makes it nice to get that much horsepower out of a handgun, but not get punished on the shooters end.

i wrote a lil article on it at the specialty pistols website. still have a lil more 100 yard load work to do but i think i'm gonna love this thing 8)

I have since called TC and asked them and the techs there said no pressure problems at all.  They will NOT, however, chamber them for any of the short mags, he said.  Too much pressure for the break open frame.

The standard mag is more powerful anyway, from what I read.

Besides, in a break open gun there is no advantage to a shorter case.  Right?

handirifle, you are correct, there is no advantage from a short mag. JMHO.

handirifle, also if your buddy is still intrested in a 300 Win Mag barrel, I have mine up for sale in the T/C classified section. I want a 416 barrel.  :D

Redhawk1,

Great idea, I was looking at the 375 barrels, as I didn't know that they were doing 416's for the rifle.  But I think I will stick with wanting a 375 barrel.
