Another Tasco bite the dust!
« on: April 23, 2005, 07:35:42 AM »
Went to the range today to empty some brass while load testing. The scope was a Tasco World class 2x7 which has endured no more than 100 rounds of 270 130 grain loads and 100 various 150-180 grain loads fired from the 308 it is about to be removed from. It started loosing zero by stringing shots in a circular pattern and the reticle tipping. I almost feel it is not worth sending in to Tasco for the warranty as the scope is only 3 years old. Are the newer versions any better?

Hmmm....kinda what you'd expect for a $50 scope, don't ya think???  There may not be any warranty depending on when it was made.....There are much better scopes for not much more money that have a good reputation that I'd consider before buying another Tasco.....the Muellers and Bushnells from Jon at The Optic Zone, to be specific.

I don't think the Tasco is worth the postage. Some how I don't think 200 rounds should take out a scope. I did use it to take an antelope on the 270 .  I think I gave 45 dollars or so for it so it cost 12 dollars a so to use it a year. Off to file 13 it goes. Happy scope shopping for me.

rickt300, do like I did. I switched almost all my scopes to Leupold.  I also have a couple Leupolds in the safe.  :D

I just bought a 30-30 that has a 4x M8 Leupold on it. I am going to send it in for cleaning and put it on my 308. I think Tasco was betting on the fact that 200 rounds shot is maore than a lot of people shoot in 5 years.

Yup, sounds like a Tasco.  My 4-16x40AO couldn't hold up to the recoil of a .270 either.  Point of impact started wondering.  I bought a Mueller which is working out extremely well.  Do you have a .22?  I  mounted my Tasco on my CZ452 Lux in .22LR and it seems to be holding zero fine.  It will eventually get replaced though.

I've had 3 BSA scopes and one bit the dust under the recoil of heavy 45-70 loads but every Tasco I have ever owned has gone down one way or another.

Toss the Tasco and upgrade...I have two Tasco scopes and none have given me a problem but if one were to go then I would upgrade.  One of those Tascos is on my H&R Ultra Varmint 223 so recoil may not be a problem there but the other is on a 50 cal muzzleloader.

My Ruger ultralight M77 .243 with a Trashco 4 X 12 won't hold zero anymore.......this scope was bought early 1990's?  I think I will take the Leupold VX-III 1.75 X 6 off the .45.70 and put it on the Ruger.........then put a williams peep on the .45.70..........

I can' t say I'm suprised......you get what you pay for, and I did too!
