bad news for Aetec lovers
« on: April 23, 2005, 06:54:14 AM »
Simmons has decided to change the one thing that lured many of us to them......5" eye relief(on the 2.8x10).

they're being replaced with the 'master' series. 3.5" eye relief.

also, the portion of the tube between the objective bell and turret has been shortened to just enough to get a ring in, limiting placement on rifle.

its in the 'new 2005 catalog' link.

Better make that (lucky) 13. I like Simmons scopes and have had GREAT luck with them.
I wish I could say something good about their warranty and customer service, but I have never needed them!!! I guess that's as good as it gets!!!!. I just wish they left the Aetec line as it was....<><....

The Aetecs, 44Mag, WTC, ATV, WTE and 22Mag scopes are extremely popular at RimfireCentral, there are very few, if any, that have anything bad to say about any of these scopes when used primarily on rimfire firearms, lots have them on centerfires too, but I can't vouch for their use on them, other than to say that I know of a couple that use the WTC on .300 win mags. I do know that Simmons has great customer service from those at RFC that have had problem scopes, they were replaced promptly with equal or better scopes in the case of discontinued models. I have 3 ATVs, a WTE and a WTC18, they all perform flawlessly, unfortunetly, they're all discontinued now and Simmons has moved their assembly plant from the Philippines where all the good scopes were coming from, to China, time will tell with their new Master series as to whether the move was positive or not. Good scopes can come out of China, but the QC Simmons/Meade puts into the new scopes is gonna be the deciding factor. I doubt all Simmons scopes will be hand inspected as are the Muellers.

Have a 44 mag and Aetec,  Love 'em both.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Even if the new Master series scopes are better than the Aetec, 44Mag, WTC, etc, they won't be available in higher magnifications like 18x or 20x.  The Master series doesn't go above 14x.  How sad! :(

SN, the new Master series has several models above 14x, The Prosport 6-18x50, Prohunter 6-18x40, 6-21x44 Side Focus and 6-24x44 Side focus. They're all listed in the 2005 Simmons catalog at www.simmonsoptics.com  Takes a while to download for dialup.... They're all listed in the Apr/May Natchez catalog, too.

I have had nothing but great service from the Aetecs and Straight Power Pro-Hunter scopes. All on 30-06 and bigger rifles. Never have needed their customer service either.
shot placement is everything.
