Special Interest Arms (http://www.specialinterestarms.com/) produces a nice looking adeptation of the No. 4 Enfield to 7.62x39. Does anyone have any experience with this firm or their work?

(please, no flames about modifying an original rifle - this is a matter of personal taste - I like both the originals and some modified adeptations)

I thought the same as you.Then I found out that you can simply reload the 125 grain .310 bullet for 7.62X39 in .303.It is a real joy to shoot.Very accurate and almost no recoil.

There's a firm in alaska who makes the chamber adapters for just about every gun that will shoot 7,62x39. I think their $25 then you need to modify the extractor and magazine. A cheap 303 britt just maybe the way too. I was looking at a spanish 1916 308 mauser. But i haven't made a move yet making one i've been too busy reloading ammo between fishing. I have no clue how i ever worked there isn't enough time being retired?? BigBill

Jim B: Sorry, I haven't heard of that firm but Stan and BigBill have given you good information. Yes, you can load the 303 Brit with the 123-5 gn 7.62x39 bullets for light loads - years ago the 303 Brit even had a loading with that weight bullet.

Or, you can e-mail MCA Sports in Anchorage, Alaska and see if they will/can make up a 7.62x39mm insert for the 303. Much cheaper than having a rifle rebarrelled. I have some of their inserts for my 30-06 and was just playing with 7.62x25mm ammo in that rifle - shoots like a hoot and works like a charm, it's a blast. HTH. Mikey.

Thanks much for the input and ideas! My real attraction to the No. 4 conversion is really two-fold. One is that inexpensive and reasonably accurate 7.62x39 ammo is everywhere, whereas high-quality surplus .303 is sometimes difficult to find. The second reason is that with the magazine conversion (original barrel is used and cropped) you end up with a light, short repeater carbine - suitable as a short-range deer rifle with good handloads. I think that with a receiver sight it would be real nice to carry in the brush. The price is quite reasonable compared to the alternative (CZ rifle) and I just like the No. 4 action. My real concern is the quality of the workmanship.
