DA trigger on small vs. compact frames
« on: March 08, 2005, 05:41:13 PM »
Time, money, and convenience have called me back to the joys of the .22 lr.

Now, what to buy? Already have a couple rifles and the requisite ruger auto, so.... how about a DA revolver!

Now, which will have a better stock DA trigger? Better potential after a trigger job? Will it be the 94 (better to holster, lighter for little people soon), or the Tracker (ain't more always better?).

The purpose is fun and games on the cheap, wheelgun style.

I have the 94 and it makes a great fun/trail gun. The single action trigger pull seems very light to me (have not used a scale on it). Double action was a little rough and stagey feeling at first, but it has smoothed out quite a bit with use. Trigger job should really bring out the best.

Here is my 2 cents on buying a DA 22 revolver. I would buy something other than a Taurus. I recently purchased a brand new model 94 with a 4 inch barrel for $255.00. I took it to the range with a friend and we shot around 550 to 600 rounds through it and we were both  totally amazed how terrible the trigger pull in single and double action was with this Taurus. I ended up ordering a trigger gauge that goes up to 25 lbs to see where this 22 would register. On single action it averaged after several readings at 7lbs and double action was at 15 lbs. I called Taurus and they told me this was typical of that model and there was nothing that could be done about it. Now I looking to trade this piece of junk off for something better. My advice, buy some other brand of 22 because in the long run you will be happier and from the dealers I have talked to Taurus has a lower trade in value. I can definitely see why after owning a piece of junk.

Tony, sorry you had such bad luck with your 94. I just recently started shooting an older nickle plated 4 in and I love it. Single action is very light tho double is smooth it is long and heavy. Gun is plenty accurate if I do my job. Possum or some other feral critter at 25 to 30 ft is a goner if I get my tri-focals lined up right. Ain't old age fun!!!!
