44 Mag Scope
« on: May 01, 2005, 12:42:55 PM »
Hey everyone,
Still in a dilemma, on deciding which scope for my 12" 44mag Encore.  I Would Like to hear, all the pros and cons of  the different scope brands. I know I would like a multi power scope. For shots out to about 100 yards.
something like a 2-6 Power.  Also where would be the best place, to get the best price?   Any help very much welcomed.

I'd go with the Bushnell.  I've always been impressed with their scopes, especially the Trophy line.

I cannot comment on the scopes you listed, no experience.  If you are using your 44 Mag to hunt deer in SE Ohio, I would suggest the following.  I have hunted deer in Muskingum county , and I would suggest an ULTRADOT scope. For the range you suggested, I donot think there is anything that would meet your requirements better, especially if you where glasses, especially bifocals. It has made a world of difference on my 44 Contender.  I hope you donot mind my suggestion, I am sure your choices are good ones, but I thought another option may help.

Luredaddy,

I've kicked around the Idea of a Ultradot or red dot type scope. thanks for bringing them up.

The only red dot I've ever used was on a crossbow. I kinda had mixed feelings about it. Do they hold up well to the recoil ?  I don't where glasses yet , But must say I'm starting to think I need them.    I see Bushnell and some others are making Red dots with multi- recticles, Like cross hairs and such. Has anyone used one of these?

I have three Contender pistol barrels (22 Mag, 357 Max, 44 Mag).  They are all are scoped with a Nikon 2X.  It's all I need out to 100 yds.

BTW, the only scope I've ever had fail was a Burris 2-7X on the 44 barrel.

I use a Bushnell Holosite on my 14" .44 mag. and love it.  I've had it for about 8 years w/ no problem.  Also have one on a 7-30 bbl. - same result. The nice thing is target aquisition is easy no matter how you end up resting the gun - no eye relief problems.  By the way, I hunt in Coshocton county.

sk330lc, E-mail me if you are interested in a handgun scope. I have a Leupold 4X EER and a Weaver 2X8X28mm.  Surfish7@aol.com

But if you decide on a red-dot get an Ultra Dot. I have one on my BFR in 500MAG and have well over 1000 rounds of full loads through it.  Hold up great under heavy recoil.  :D

I have a Bushnell Trophy 2-6x32
It has seen duty on my 7.5" .44 SBH, Very Stout loads
And duty on my 14" T/C 7-30 Waters
And currently is atop my 14" T/C .223
Never a Hickup
What ever you get, get it from Jon at the Optic Zone.
I have purchased several scopes from him and always pleased.
He also has alway's had the best price and I usually recieve me scopes in less than three day's

I don't think that you will be disappointed in the fixed 4X.  In my opinion, it will work perfectly with the 44 mag.

Good luck!
