...for a 1898 US .30-40 Krag-Jorgesen, sporterized, but very nice. bore is bright and shiny, the rifling is sharp and no inside pitting, a little on the outside. the bluing is in good shape and the stock has no cracks and the finish appears to be quite good. only blemish is where some doofus scratched "30-40 CRAG" into the foreend. it appears bubba can't spell either.

neatest thing i saw today was a .50 cal muzzleloader built on a No.4

all the ones i've seen have been cut back to 18-19" barrels. how common is this? also is ther a webist that can tell me how to remove the bolt and disassemble the rifle? i'll try and get some pics taken of it next weekend.

Try Gun Digest's book on centerfire rifle assembly/disassembly. I would guess you have public libraries up there, but buying it is a good investment if you have the money.

I don't think i'll ever part with mine. I have all three Egyptian Hakim, Swede Ljungman and the Egyptian Rasheed. It took me quite sometime to find the three of them too. The Ljungman AG42B's are worth around $750+ here on the net. BigBill

I went to a gun show here locally and I have to say there was hardley any surplups there. I think were past the drying up stage on some of these. There wasn't even any Yugo sks's!!!!!!!! One guy who always has an FN49 only had bolt actions and garands. There doesn't seem to be much militray surplus stuff around. I think the internet will be the way to find and get this stuff but it maybe harder to find too. I guess it just maybe spotty at gun shows but time will tell. I can remember the biggest gun show in the northeast having no sks's or mosin's too at some of the shows then the very next show it had SVT-40 Tokarev's(3), Egyptian Hakims(4) and even Egyptian Rasheeds(3) and they had FN49's comming out of the woodwork too and all at one show it had to be the moon phase that caused this abnormal thing to happen. But then the very next gun show there were none!!! Its funny how it happens.

$750 for a Ljungman??!! they won't sell for more than $300 CDN here. i know of at least 6 of them for sale under $350, if i want another one, which i will some day. but i've always wanted a Krag and it's a better choice for deer hunting. for some reason i didn't really like hunting with a semi auto rifle. i kept my 6.5x55 dies and brass because i plan to get a 6.5 Krag before the years over. only saw one yesterday but it was in very rough shape and overpriced for its condition.

Don't over look a Swede Mauser they are really nice guns.

Kevin.303; You should grab a swede mauser??? There has to be some clean ones still around up north? Either an M96 or M38 will do there good accurate rifles since you already have the ammo. BigBill

I don't see any cheap swede's here anymore too. And the ones i have seen were priced too high for the condition they were in. It really made it cost effective to buy a M96 or M38 barreled action from Samco and a stock w/hardware from Numrich and build one which can be done. Its very rare to find an all matching swede here anyway but as long as the bolt matches the reciever thats the least i'll accept. I'm not sure what Samco has left by now. I have only seen one "ALL MATCHING" swede here. I found a Carl Gustaf M96, with all matching numbers on the metal and wood stock and handguard, besides having the range plate too. Who knows what that is worth now too. I figure just finding a matching reciever and bolt is a good find for a swede.

pulled and oiled the bolt. took a look down the bore and my jaw dropped wide open. no pitting, no rust, and sharp clear rifling. i always seem to luck into these great deals. the action was even smoother after oiling it. i want more! a full length .30-40 would nice, but first a 6.5 Krag. maybe i will buy that beater and give it some TLC....

kevin.303 If your looking for Krags and there hard to find I seen some at antique blackpowder gun shows sometimes too. Sometimes we have antique blackpowder only gun shows here too. I walked into one not knowning what kind of gun show it was I felt like I brought my Jap motorcycle to a harley gathering I was that out of place. I felt that out of place but once i calmed down I really enjoyed the show. These guys have their own zip code too just like the BSA & Triumph motorcycle riders do too their just a different breed of unique odd people. (some of them) I had the misses with me and i sure was glad she came with me mainly because the prices were out of sight on all of this antique stuff which made me buying military surplus stuff seem down right cheap and affordable. Everything was priced in the many thousands of dollars just for one antique gun. I told her i wanted to collect these antique guns someday too and the ride in the car going home was very quiet on that trip for some reason? All I could think of was spending $3,000 on one gun? Thats highly unlikely with me being so frugal its just against my values thats not me. Lets figure thats $3,000 for one and one Mosin 91/30 is $59 wow??? Do you think the surplus military guns will ever hit antique status someday??? Back to the orginal post sorry to stray away. I did see old krags and mausers there at decent prices too so if you have any antique gun shows you may want to take a look too just to see if any are there too. I did pass on an orginal Krag once for $300 back when i had no clue about them. Right after i seen them for as high as $750 to $1,000 then i realized what they are worth. ouch!!! BigBill

There are some krags and old rifles in one of Charles Bronsons movies about a trapper with Lee Marvin also in it when he was a Canadian Mountie. Good movie!! Nice to see these old guns too.

I don't have any Krags yet?? Humm now you got me thinking 30-40 or 6,5? What other calibers were they? There's a Krag site on the net too somewhere I think its a Krag club if i remember correctly. I never thought about Krags.

the Danes used 8mm Krags, but ammo is non existent. if i can find an full lentgh Krag with a cut down stocki'll order a repro from Boyds. i have to wait till sunday to test this. only 6 more sleeps! i'm like a kid before christmas!! :lol:

i haven't seen the movie but i think i might know the story it's based on. i think it was during WW2, a trapper in northern alberta or the yukon went nuts a killed a bunch of people, and there was quite a large manhunt that lasted a couple months before they finally shot him

"Death Hunt" thats it!!!!!!! There was an older movie but i can't remember the name of it, it may have been a disney movie. I think it was called "Old Trapper" but i can't find it. I just purchased a bunch of movies and Death Hunt was one of them. Its a movie you just gotta have along with Clint Eastwoods spaggetti westerns too besides Dirty Harry.

Look for Charles Bronson in "Hard Times" too its one of his best movies!!!! He's just got that beer bottle face and he plays the part really well. Were sure going to miss this guy!!! :cry: BigBill

I remember an old movie about a Trapper too who was chased by the mounties just like death hunt. I think it was a Disney movie does anyone know this movie, I've been looking to buy it but i can't find it anywhere.
