I am sure the local gunsmith should be able to fix you up. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Hey JH45gun the local gunsmith is a real twerp he wanted to build me mounts that would raise the scope high enough to clear the bolt, thats pretty close to 2.5 inches! To damn high for me. Thanks for your reply. Jimmy

Well if the bolt is going to interfer with clearing the scope as it is not bent for a scope  than maybe you need a new bolt handle installed that is low and then get the mounts done.  I am not aware of anyone who makes a scout mount for a Jap rifle but maybe a mauser one can be fit to the rear sight bracket for a scout rifle set up.

Spending money on Ariskas

If you are having fun and enjoying that rifle more power to you.  Somthing to consiter here, you are spending money on an undesireable rifle.  Yes, I know it is strong.  Strong does not make a decent sporting rifle.  You may be able to buy a modern sporting rifle for close to what you will have in this project.  If on the other hand you can do the work yourself, have fun and enjoy the process.

Scota looks like he has it fixed up real nice so a few more bucks is not going to hurt as long as he likes it that is the main thing. Yea I found out that you never get what you have into a sporterized milsurp but hey if you plan to keep it and enjoy it thats all that matters.  I bet he knows that it cost just as much to sporterise one with what he has done already. As far as he is along he might as well finish the job. Jim

Scota you are right but the darn thing is a tack driver, thats why I took it this far. I have a competion peep site on it and I can put 5 rounds in a 5 inch circle at 300 yards and thought if I could get a decent scope on it I could better my grouping. Any way Ive been thinking about tradeing it off and let some one else finish it. Id be willing to bet that shell take coyotes all day at 1500 yards!   Jimmy

No need to modify the bolt just use a scope with sufficient eye relief to allow the bolt to clear the scope during operation.  :D
