Not to beat a dead horse
« on: April 17, 2005, 11:27:33 AM »
Not wanting to beat up an old dead horse, but I do want to go back to the thread marked safty warning M77 with tang safty.

I am not going back to point a finger, but would like ask. I too have an older m77 with the thumb(tang) safty. This gun was bought early 80's. On this rifle you DO NOT have to release the safty to opperate the bolt. Once the rifle has been fired, you have to work the bolt to go back to safe from fire.  Is this gun a later model ? Were there earlier models with the tang that had to be on fire before the bolt would work ? About what year was a change made if there was a change?

My M77 7mm Mag was purchased in 1981 and has to be in the "Fire" position to open the bolt.  My .257 Roberts, made in 1989, will allow the bolt to open when the safety is in the "Safe" position.

Get a Number 1. It has a tang safety and the block can be dropped with the safety in either position.
