New stainless sidekick!
« on: May 24, 2005, 05:50:09 PM »
:-D

My wife brought my new stainless/synthetic NEF Sidekick home from work today! : )  I have expensive items and guns shipped there as her work has no rules against it and mine has a total ban on firearms on site...

The Sidekick's a beauty, and is the first H&R/NEF I've bought with a stainless barrel. Trigger is nice too - it breaks at a clean 3.5 lbs out of the box. No trigger job on this guy!

I like the metal Williams fiber-optic sights, and recent production like this has a pre-blackened brass ramrod. I'll have to get to the range with it soon.

I love new toys!

Congratulations perklo!

Did you get the 5/8" or 7/8" breech plug? I have been kicking around the idea of trying the .25acp conversion in my Huntsman. The 209 system still works well, but I don't like the blowback. Let us know how she shoots.

busta,

I guess I must have missed something about NEF production changes...

Did they do a running change on breech plug sizes recently??

perklo,

The new 2005 production with the only available 26" barrels have a 5/8" plug. The older Huntsman/Sidekicks have a 7/8" plug. I don't know if one is any better than the other but if anyone is ordering the .25acp conversion from Cecil they need to know what size they have. The 5/8" plug would leave a lot more meat on the breech end of the barrel though.

busta,

I pulled the plug and my Sidekick has the new 5/8" plug.

Live and learn...

Also, I have enough clearance for my socket/plug wrench homemade tool to use it without removing the barrel from the frame.
