I personally like 2400 in my 44 MAG's. I use the Lil-Gun and H110 for the 454 Casull and 500 MAG.

I load for a bunch of different handgun in several different cals. I use only 2 powders, Bulleyes for plinking loads and Win. 296 for hunting loads. That`s the way I`ve been doing it since the late 1980`s, so I`ve never tried Lil gun. H-110 is about identical to Win 296 and the only reason I chose it over the H 110 is because I can buy it cheaper in 8 lb. cans. With the Win. 296 or the H 110 keep your loads at max. or near max. and I would recomand that you try the Serria 240 gn. JHP for deer, best accuracy and terminal preformance combo of ant of the bullets I`ve tried and I shot alot of different bullets in a .44 mag. since I got my first one in 1966.

I prefer H110 or WW296 for my heavy 44 magnum loads.  The accuracy from my 4" 44 magnum is simply excellent with that powder and hardcast slugs.  Mikey.

I've always used H110 in my Redhawk 44 But am thinking about trying W296. The load mamuals say Lil Gun is suppose to be good also.  Might try that also.

In my 445 supermag I have come to love H lilgun.  I like it so much more than H110.  I will not be buying anymore H110 only LILGUN For my 445 supermag DW


I get equal if not better velosity and less pressure than the H110.  I have to say its with most loads NOT all loads.

LiL' Gun gives very similar pressure/velocity performance to H110, so any significant difference would be the gun, not the load.  It would boil down to a choice of which powder gave the best accuracy at the target velocity.  BTW, H110 and W296 are the same powder made by Hodgdon; load differences are due to differing powder lots and different components.

Handloaders aren't neccesarily served best by the fastest velocities. I've found that a compromise of fast, to get the best accuracy does what I need to do in the hunting field. That said, in the several .44 mags I've owned over several decades, 2400 has been the best (so far) for me.  However, I am open to new (read cleaner burning) powders, if anyone knows of something better?

This is what other posters on this thread are saying - H110/W296 and Lil'Gun burn more cleanly than 2400 at .44 pressures.  So does AA#9.....

The accuracy potential with 110 and 296 isn't as good as what I've experienced with 2400, in the .44 mag handguns I've owned. I've not tried Lil'Gun in a .44 mag but, have loaded some in Harvey .224 Kaychuck brass. How much air space is left in a loaded case of .44 mag when using Lil'Gun? Cleaner would be nice but, accurate is paramout.

I use H110 with the Nosler 250 gr PT  out of my S&W 629 Classic. I have a Leupold M8 2X scope and it will shoot one hole groups @ 50 yds if I do my part.
