« on: August 31, 2004, 03:43:24 PM »
me and my dad are going elk hunting this year for the first time in 3 yrs, we have not gone lately because at 63 his feet get to hurting after hiking awhile and it was just to much for him, we tried horses but they are to much of a pia so we have found a spot we can take the 4 wheelers to the top of the hill in the morning and hunt from there, my problem is we have to have the rifle enclosed while traveling on an atv here in CO and need to buy a scabard of some sort I see cabelas has the Kolpin gun boot is there anything else you guys would recomend?

If you are looking for enclosed gun carrying the Koplin gun boot is about the best you are going to find.

Kolpin is what I use.  Mine is covered in mud, but the rifle always stays clean and dry.  They are constructed well and not too expensive.  It is the style seen most often.  Hard to go wrong with the Kolpin.

Just as a side bar, I am looking for a gun boot also.    I have not been able to see the Koplin.   Will it accept a left handed bolt action?

It is symetrical so it will take a left handed gun fine.

I used to use Kolpin cases.  I started using big scopes and could not get them into the Kolpin cases.  Now use Gun Slinger cases, the scopes fit well.  I think they are made by Duskocil.  Anyway the San Angelo universal mount holds it to the ATV well and is half the price of the Kolpin mount.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Koplin are great cases. Be careful in tall sage or timber cause they can hang up and tip ya over (seen it happen). They will keep yer gun dry and clean though.
I went to a front mounted rack. A soft case can be used on these racks, if necessary.   Is it Kolpin or Koplin? Obviously both. :-)
