i got a big close fat one load ready
« on: April 03, 2005, 07:14:21 AM »
i've been playing around with a new load for this P-dog shoot. my plan is to get a big fat one up close , maybe 100-120 yards, and shoot him with this sucker, and get it on tape.

the load for the 30-06 is: a bunch of IMR 4064 and a speer 110 varminter. i'm pushing it around 3200 FPS that gives it 1300 flbs of energy at 120 yards. and in my test with milk jugs of water it will go through two jugs and not the third (the bullet was made 2900 FPS so at 3200 it really just comes apart) there is no safety worries here when this bullet touches something it blows up.

you know this is just too much fun just getting ready for it. i can not wait until june. thanks again wes for putting this on for us .
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

I don't have any experience with the .308 cal 110 grain hollow points.  But I have seen a load for the .270WIN that used 110 grain hollowpoints.  It wouldn't open on prairie dogs.  Just blew straight through them.  It wasn't near as spectacular as we thought it would be.

Now, having said that....I have loaded some 125 grain Nosler Ballistic tips for a 300WSM.  It WILL completely blow up a cat (and various other smallish critters including a peacock and a rabbit).

I loaded up some 90 gr. 270 hornady bullets. they were moving at 3600 across my chronograph. they hit coyotes with authority!
