Minorities victimized by gun laws
« on: May 06, 2005, 05:15:14 AM »
It seems that gun laws are strictest in cities with the most violent crime and the most ineffectual police, at least in minority neighborhoods.  Isn't it arguable that strict gun control laws in cities such as New York, Washington DC, and Chicago are directed at irradicating undesirable minorities?  After all, if poor law abiding minorities in Chicago could own inexpensive handguns they might protect themselves from the drug thugs that the police can't/won't protect them from and thereby continue their lives and reproduce.  Aren't most of these gun laws enacted by well educated, wealthy, white men?  Gun control may be simply a subtle form of racism?  Wealthy people like Diane Feinstein and John Kerry are not dependent upon the police for their protection from thugs and hoodlums, no, they hire their own gunmen to protect them.  And these wealthy white people have the nerve to say guns are bad and poor black and hispanic people should not have the right, granted in the US constitution, to own guns to protect themselves?

Don't make a racial issue out of something that is clearly a class issue.

Poor people in general are victimized by gun control laws, which are aimed directly at keeping firearms out of our hands, because we're viewed as "scary" people. After all, we do possess an inate propensity to commit violent crimes, don't we?

I've spent my entire adult life defending my right to bear arms, and I am growing weary of this interminable struggle. I am actually losing my otherwise healthy interest in firearms due to the prejudicial opinions of self-righteous middle class whites who flee our troubled inner cities to reside in exclusive rural communities while sanctimoniously praising the benefits of multicultural diversity. But when they are alone and cozy with each other they breathe a sigh of relief that they no longer have to contend with all those "trashy poor people."

I recently discovered that the good old boys who comprise the inner clique at the conservation club where I shoot consider my wife and me to be worthless urban trash. For twelve years we've worked to make this club a better place for members to enjoy themselves, and now these arrogant back slappers have the gall to insinuate we're "trash."

I've always thought a man should be judged by his character, not the content of his wallet. But, sadly, this just isn't so.

Greyski:

I was not entirely serious in my post.  I don't know if I think my post is on point about the motivations of the gun control legislators, just advancing a plausible, inflammatory hypothesis.  Perhaps it is as valid as most accusations of racism today.

It is unfortunate the people at your conservation club have the attitude towards you that you mention.  I presume you are a hunter.  Perhaps the members of the conservation club are not hunters?  Just a guess as it wasn't clear from your post.  This being the case, they may have a class oriented view of hunting -- hunting is an anachronistic activity of under developed people who are satisfied by pandering to the baser instincts -- experiencing the thrill of making a loud noise and exercising formidible physical force on defenseless animals.  Obviously if hunters were better educated -- meaning having attended the better schools -- and were from better breeding stock, they would have more advanced leisure pursuits, like beating small dimpled balls with long slim metal sticks on a glorious expansive lawn.

I agree with you 100% on judging people on their character rather than their wallets.  Of course, the size of my wallet wouldn't get me very far up the pecking order, so maybe I'm biased.  The older I get, the more I value people's character and the less tolerance I have for people with bad character.

No, my being labeled "trash" has nothing to do with hunting. It has everything to do with corruption. These good old boys get together every Wednesday, rain or shine, for a trap shoot. Now, I don't know about you, but as much as I like to shoot on the rifle and pistol ranges, I'm not going to risk death by pneumonia to enjoy it. I've been informed by a witness that there is gambling involved with this trap shoot, and these back slappers are trying to protect their financial interests by driving away new members, and those who might blow the whistle on this illegal practice.

The President of the club understands I am a "straight arrow." What these good old boys don't realize, yet, is that this straight arrow is about to fly straight and true to the Indiana State Police with some juicy information regarding their criminal conduct.

I wonder how arrogant these good old boys will be when standing before a judge while being sentenced for a Class 'D' felony. I'll bet they will be sobbing all the way to their prison cells while realizing all those middle class goodies they possessed will soon be history due to their filthy greed.

Mr alsatian;

Perhaps you'd be interested in the following article:

The Racist Roots of Gun Control

by Clayton E. Cramer

Racist arms laws predate the establishment of the United States. This is not surprising, for blacks in the New World were often slaves, and revolts against slave owners often degenerated into less selective forms of racial warfare. The perception that free blacks were sympathetic to the plight of their enslaved brothers, and the "dangerous" example that blacks could actually handle freedom often led New World governments to disarm all blacks, both slave and free.

They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.
