Choke on a slug barrel?
« on: July 01, 2005, 01:45:40 PM »
My slug barrel has a screw in choke on it. What effect does this have on shooting slugs? What choke is best to use? It is an 870 in 12 gauge.
Go out and get yourself a Concealed Weapons License. I did. :gun4:

I wouldn't shoot slugs through a screw in choke tighter than Modified. Improved cylinder or Cylinder bore is probably better. I'm assuming this is a smooth bore and your shooting foster type slugs?

I use an improved choke tube in my Mossberg 500 with very good results.

You can pick up a used police barrel on ebay pretty cheap. Just do a search for 870 barrel and you'll be amazed at what's available. The better options is to jjust buy a TRACKER2 or ULTRA SLUG and start shooting some quality modern sabot slugs. I don't use my 870 slug barrels much anymore.
