Snopes gives some mumbo jumbo that the facts are  misleading as not that many aussies had guns before this went into effect something I do not buy as I see Aussie folks on the gun boards all the time. Jim

It has been at least 5 or 6 years since Austrailian took away pump and semiauto guns and destroyed them and some others which I don't recall. So anything talking about one year is either very old or very misleading.

My memory isn't the best in the world, but I know it's been at least 4 or 5 years since the Aussies took away all those guns.  THIS IS VERY OLD NEWS.  The latest I've read is that since there is no guns to steal and use, the criminals are now using swords and machetes.  The government is now trying to register all edged insterments over a certain length.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Australia has more recently outlawed certain classes of handguns.  This was quite the topic of conversation o nthe Luger forum as some of the outlawed items were collector grade stuff.  (And no, the government would not allow them to be exported.)
