Paint color?
« on: May 04, 2005, 03:41:22 AM »
My beer can coehorn is nearing completion.  I wanted to know what paint would be most appropriate for it.  Everything I've read has said that the steel should be black and the wood olive drab.  It would be helpful if someone could be more specific i.e. paint color and brand.

Paint color!.  It has long been stated that the proper color is the Olive drab that mail collection boxes used to be painted. If you can find an Olive drab mail box and get a paint chip you take it to a paint store and they canuse there analysis equipment and match the color.

If you can wait a couple of days I will have a paint chip sample courtesy of Steen cannons.  I will take the chip to Home Depot and have them analyze it get the formula to mix the paint.

I just had a call back from Paulsen Bros.  They say the color was called originally called liquid olive.   They recommend going to Lowe's or Home Depot and selecting and olive green that looks right.  They also said that some say the right color can be found in your Martini, the drink not the rifle.  The green olive is the right color.  They have checked an olive against the color and it matches.

So have a drink, save the olive and go match it to paint chips at Lowe's.

I guess that it makes sense that olive drab would be the color of an olive.

I was mainly wondering if there were any specific paint brands that were the right color.  I'll see what I can find at the hardware store.

I got a paint chip from Steen's and took it to Lowes to be analyzed, here's the formula from Lowes.

American Traditional latex  semi gloss
Base: B4-19908  Quart.
101 1 ounce, 14 shots
105 46 shots, 1 half shot
111 34 shots
113 2 shots, 1 half shot.

I'll check Home Depot also
