204 barrel cost
« on: May 09, 2005, 07:15:04 AM »
Does anyone know the cost of the Ruger 204 barrel, its length, and if it is a bull barrel?
Thanks,
John B.

22" bull barrel, cost is most likely the same as the .223 22" bull barrel.

It's probably not much more to have the Ultra barrel installed to the frame. I did that when I put a .223 barrel on my Handi.
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens

The only .204 barrel available is the 22" bull barrel, no ultra yet, maybe in a year the fluted Ultra will be available in the accessory barrel program, as of now, it's still not available as a rifle, just the .223.

If you review the 2005 catalog on page 22, they list the Ultra Varmit Fluted rifle in 204, 22-250 and 223.  I saw these in a local gun shop with a price of aroung $350.

They list them, but the only one available is the .223, the 22-250 and .204 Ultra Varmints aren't in warehouses yet. The Sports South link will show them when they become available. And the 24" 22-250 and 204 Ruger barrels won't be available until well after the rifles are on dealer's shelves. The 500 S&W is listed too, but show me one!!! There are a bunch here that are looking for all of the above, the .223 Ultra fluted is the only one showing up anywhere.

Sorry to pop your bubble, but I handled the rifles and almost walked out with the 22-250

No bubbles popped here....why didn't ya buy it, you'd be the first here to report on it! Now it's just heresay!!!! :P Did ya see a .204 Ultra fluted? The point here is there are no 24" 204 ruger barrels to be had from the accessory barrel program, just the 22". It'll be a while yet before that happens...maybe right after the elusive 7.62x39!!!!

You are correct and you are correct.  It was the 223 and 22-250 and I should have walked out with the 22-250.

Too may other rifle and barrels to test first.  Just recieved my 270 back from factory for warranty work, trigger work and fitting of new 3006 Ultra Comp. Would have been able to test the 06 sooner, but the scope rail was not shipped with the barrel.  Still waiting.

Recieved the scope rail just after the previous posting.  They sent me the standard rail, but that will do.  So, I hope to put the rifle through its paces tommorrow

They seem to be messing up on the rail orders lately.  I think that guy that used to strip all the recoil pad screws is now working in the scope rail dept.

Anyways, I see the Ultra rail as a disadvantage.  The extra set screw and overhanging rail can only cause problems and offer little if anything of an advantage.  You're probably better off without it.
