Did not know they put them out in .280. Thought they were all .35 Whelen. Or did someone just switch the barrel.

Yes, they made them in 35 Whelen and 280 Remington for one year. I also think this price is way too high. Wasn't trying to sell it. Just wanted to show fans of the RMEF rifles that they do hit the market from time to time.

I bought the RMEF SB2 in .243 Cal. at a pawn shop-it was manufactured in April 1994. It was called a "youth edition" with walnut stock/forearm and the RMEF Emblem in stock. According to NEF folks at least 50 of these were made special order for a group? in Montana and sold for $240.00 new.

Just wondering if anyone else has one of these? Would love to have the .35 Whelen.

Yep. Those youth 243s were special ordered by the (guess who) Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, whose headquarters is in Missoula, Montana. I undestand they were sold at auctions and fund raisers for the foundation. They were not sold to the general public. What you have there is what I would consider one of the rarest!! While the 35 Whelens and 280 Remingtons hit the used gun market from time to time, I have never even seen one like yours.

mt3030 thanks for the info on the .243-I've been trying to find out as much as I can about this rifle and haven't had a whole lot of success. Any more info you or others have would be appreciated.

I got a youth model NIB last year in .308 stamped on the barrel and everything for 200.00 The dealer threw in 2 sets of scope rings and 25 dollars worth of ammo. Guess I took advantage of him.
