Got my turkey this morning and more
« on: May 05, 2005, 08:20:59 AM »
Went out before sunrise and hunted a  friend of mines family farm.   Its couple hindered arces of woodland and gain fields.  I hunt down  in the creek bottom and set up at an old tree fall.  I call a little and the toms really started talking.  about an hour later here comes ole tom turkey I took him with my Charles Daly maxi mag at 25 yrds.  he weigh out at 18 pounds two ounces.  As I was coming out of the woods there sat a friendly Maryland DNR policewoman.  Went through the usual show my ID and hunting license.  Then we just started chatting.  Come to find out she is single and ever try wild turkey so being the gentleman I am   cough cough  I invited her over this weekend and I'm going to deep fry the turkey for her.  So I got my turkey and a date to boot....MY lucky day !!!!!

Congrats on the turkey and the date. Got my turkey a while back, but no date :-D If i'd have got a date my wife would have been po'd at me. Nothing quite as fun as watching the gobblers working thier way into range and giving them a big suprise. Use a 10Ga NEF myself. Still wondering which aftermarket choke to buy although my stock choke has killed turkeys at 50 yds and drops them like they were hit in the head with a hammer at 30yds.
There are no bad hunting days.

I let my date shoot her own turkey ;)

Good luck, but I'd be nervous sitting next to a warden that long ;)

I got both my turkeys this year with my H & R 12 ga.   This is the first year I have taken anything other than my Win. 1300.  Light, easy to handle, etc. etc.
I took all my deer last year w/ my 30/30 H & R.  Same reasons.
I don't know that I'll ever go back to lugging those heavier guns.

Great site.  Glad I found it.

Ok update on my dinner/date.  Laura really liked the deep fried Turkey mash potatoes and salad I made for us.  Damn she can drink beer for beer with me too my kinda women.  Also I got some bennies from this date I found out that Maryland DNR is going to stock three of the larger fishing ponds in this area with 800 15" trout, bass and catfish on the 15th of May.  Oh yeah and I'm going over to her place for dinner tonight....And Saturday we are going to the local range for some shooting fun.  I'm really starting to like this retired life.
