Trout season
« on: April 13, 2005, 01:27:07 PM »
In PA, trout season opens in just a few short days. I'm sure in other states the fun has begun already. How has your season been? I just went to the local sporting goods store yesterday and bought $100 worth of tackle plus a $31 fishing license  . Hopefully it'll all be worth it. I took a Phoebe and casted it at some bass in my pond tonite. Most were skittish but one actually took it and I almost had him in when he got caught up in cattails and got off :( . Eh that's all right :P , first fish of the season   . Ima go out now and see if I can get em again   . I might wanna check laws on that tho :)  :-D .  :D

Here in WI trout season opened last Saturday.  I spent $25 on licenses, $31 is crazy    It was pretty slow to begin, but by the end of the day I had a nice 13.5 incher and a 15 incher.  Freshly dug worms seemed to do the trick.  Good luck with your season :-)

Yea, that's awesome. I haven't been able to get out to the stream since opening day, almost a month ago . Too busy, etc, etc.  :D

Sacramento Bee had a interesting article on the declining fishing in California.  It also mention that while the cost of fishing license are going up the hatcheries are in jeopardy.

Apparently the budget for the Fish & Game is a smoke and mirrors game.  The F&G cannot or will not explain where the money is spent from fishing license.  Who knows maybe they are spending it on Mountain Lion problems.  The legislators from L.A. and S.F. are not know for being fiscally responsible.

I doubt the problem is in the field organization.  It has to be political and management level problem.  The wardens and fishery people I have met over the years are rather dedicated.  Dumping fish into Southern California streams to be scooped out by illegal's, who do not have a fishing license, nor a driver's license to get there is a major unaddressed problem.  But the same politicians will not address that problem.
There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!

Boycott: San Francisco, L.A., Oakland, and City of Sacramento, CA.

Sillly puddy them bad boys up and get out there!!!!   Spring fishing only last... well the spring i guess, but that is ususally when i have my best luck.  Late spring early summer, after the heavy spring rains subside and all those goodies are floating around in the water and soaring just off the surface for the trout to chomp on always makes for some interesting days :-)
