Deer Season....
« on: August 03, 2005, 12:33:29 PM »
Anyone else ready for the cool air to come in and deer season to start?

Got in a new club in West Jefferson Co. 10,000 acres, Mixed cc and pines with lots of hollows that have not been cut in 40 yrs. several miles of big creeks and the little Warrior River and at least 20 miles of power lines(near West Jefferson Power Plant). I've never been one to sit in a stand, but this year might be different.
At the deer show in B'ham a few weeks ago there were 3 deer over 140 there that came off of this property.

Spent the last few weekends ridding atv's trying to learn the roads and looking for the area I will concentrate on this year.

Wow, that lease sounds great! I'm ready as well...just bought a small camper to replace the pop-up camper I used at the lease last year. It should make my son and I a little more comfortable. BTW I hunt just a few miles north of Andalusia, but we only have 2300 acres. Good luck this year!!
Cheers,
R

I'm not broken, but you can see the cracks

You have no idea how ready I am for deer season and cool weather.  You see, I have been working in Thailand for 2.5 years.  In Thailand there are only two seasons Extremely Hot, and Extremely Hot with tons of Rain.  So I am ready for a chilly AL morning or two!

I have not had a chance to shoot or hunt since taking my Thailand assignment, so I am long overdue.  I will be hunting on a small little lease in Ethelsville, AL.  My buddies saved me a spot, there are 5 of us on 600 acres.  Not much land but getting better each year.  When we got the lease 4 years ago it was rare to see a deer, and you never saw any bucks.  After 4 years of shooting only 8 point or better and some management does each year, it is greatly improved.  Last year it was common for the guys to see 8-10 does and yearlings on a grass patch, and 8 nice bucks (8 point or better) seen.  We do have alot of pressure on one side of the land, and I am sure they are taking a few of our nice bucks each year.

Anyway, I simply cannot wait to bow hunt in a few months time!  I will leave Thailand for home on October 13th.

Later,
