Eaton Rapids Cannon - *Warning - Lots of pics*
« on: May 08, 2005, 01:59:55 PM »
We took a trip to our local island park in Eaton Rapids, MI and found two cannon on display, a 1864 Parrott and a 100lb from 1862.

I hope these pics come out:

The Parrott:

For scale (With me and an XD 3inch for comparison)

The 100lb:

Introducing a 20 pounder to cannon at an early age...

I hope I haven't crippled someone's dial-up modem

Great pix  -  Thanks much for posting them!  (And if I haven't done so before, WELCOME!)

Your warning was appropriate.  Took about 20-30 minutes at 33.6 with several refreshes to get them all (less one).

Yes, good pics.

Rather than refreshing time after time you can right click on the dreded red X and then click on "show picture".

The marks are slowly fading - you have to get the twist right as you pull them out...

2oakes,

Thanks for the pictures! My brother and his family live about 3 blocks from the park. I'm sure I'll be visiting Eaton Rapids this summer and will be bringing up a few toys to shoot.

PLEASE, if there is any possibility of witnessing such firing, I assume of small cannon, let me know. I can offer free guest range access at my local range (about 6 miles out of Eaton Rapids) in return.

2oakes,

Sounds like a plan. I'm bringing up a beer can mortar and golfball cannon most likely in late July. Camp Grayling (a 2.5 to 3 hour drive from Eaton Rapids) is hosting it's 15th annual long range artillery matches on July 23rd and 24th, so I'll be up there for that. It's something you might want to consider. Check out the posts on Camp Grayling.
