Ruger 77/22 for ARA Matches
« on: August 22, 2003, 05:46:31 AM »
Went to my first ARA match last week, didn't see any Rugers in the field! :(   I was wondering if anyone has built a competive rifle using the 77/22 LR action and how competive are you against the rest of the field?

Of the 10 shooters at the match the guns broke down as follows:

1 Remington 40X
1 Custom Action
8 Anshultz

I thought that I'd build a rifle around the Ruger 77/22 action with a Hart or Shilen barrel, Not sure what I'll due about the trigger yet and the scope would be a Weaver T Series. Looking for a gunsmith to thread the receiver and fit the barrel.  I don't want to use the factory mounting method as I believe that it puts pressure on the bottom of the barrel and could cause the action to warp.  Just my thoughts.

If that works I have an old 10/22 that I may rebuild to drive them nuts.
