I'm thinking about a 22Hornet rifle.

. for paper punching at 50 or 100 yards.
. good accuracy expected, with work on reload.
. i've a 22lr, but high grade ammo is pricier than carefully cast-reload in 22hornet, without pleasure of home-made and right made depending of use.
. would be my 30-30's little sister.

Need some advice before getting one.
I've read here a lot of good  reports that impress me well. The new one always good ?.

I handload the 35gr Vmax and Lil'gun powder, shot a 10shot group last time at the range with my NEF Hornet that measured less the 1" including the "flyers", most hit in ½". For the most part, everyone here that's shoots the NEF hornet gets great accuracy with them, that's why I had to have one!!! :wink:

What does the barrel measure att he muzzle on these? I've been interested in getting one, but haven't as yet, cash strapped. has anyone shot any cast in theirs?

John, my hornet's barrel measures 0.600" at the muzzle.  I bought it used 2 months ago it's got synthetic monte-carlo stocks, a slim tapered 20" barrel and rifle sights.  

I'm shooting 12.7 grains of Lil'gun in new Remington cases behind the Hdy 35gn vmax.  The rifling appears to be deep enough for cast bullets too.

S/N is NS 255XXX.  I put the wooden stocks from a shotgun on it; much better for iron sights.

I also have the super light 20 in barrel & it shoots wel & is alot of fun. I cant get it out of my sons hands (unless I put my 223 barrel on his frame).
I had to use a double O ring to float the barrel but it seems to work fine. Thought of glassing it & filling in the large open area beside the barrel but it shoots too well to mess with 35gr vmax works best for me too. Have 300 or so cases to reload my son burns them all up when we go out but we enjoy it!! do it get ya one & the as previously stated a 4570 & have the whole family :grin:

Seems that you are all hooked to your 22Hornet, a lot of fan for this tiny cartridge, maybe the best ratio pleasure/grain.

I'll cast and i appreciate advice on rifling "... deep enough for cast...", thanks Mike.
I'm always worried by my 30-30, rifling seem so light !, but shoot well after all !!.

And yes, 45-70 has already settle in my heart.

And NO, i'm not an Handiolic, i stop when i want. Not now, but after the big 45, for sure.

Yeah, sure ya will!  LOL  I used to think that, too. One rifle/shotgun combo....and 4 barrels ago.  And that's just last week.  I didn't even mention the receiver that isn't here yet.

The hornet is what started me on this path of addictive behavior . I now own 6 handis and I wouldnt trade all of them for my hornet. I got 5 more trying to find a caliber I liked as much as the hornet, I havent been able to find one yet. It is my go to gun. I can out shoot all my others with it , to 150yards anyway. I am more of a Hornethollic than a Handihollic. if you get one, try this load: 12.9 grains 4198, 45gr. Hornady hornet bullet, federal magnum small pistol primer. Atleast as accurate as lil gun but faster.
