How is a bolt handle attached to the bolt. Welding would I think change the shape of the bolt from all the heat. Whats the secret?

You could use a heat sink. I know that Remington has one that uses a dowel and solder. 710 I think.

Older designs used forgings to make bolts.  M700 remingtons silver braze the bolt handle to the bolt body.  Most suctom mausers have bolts welded onto the stub of the original bolt handle.   Savage rifles use a composite bolt with the handle as a seperate part.
