Unless you're hunting some really big bucks, I'd use a 158 grain Jacketed Soft point in either gun, provided your ranges are short and your marksmanship is up to it. Hollowpoints are okay for defense, but an expanding soft point will most likely exit and leave a better blood trail, should one be necessary. A 357 rifle is just the ticket for deer in the thick woods, many thousands of deer are taken with them every year. Bigger deer or feral hogs might require something bigger, or at least heavier, like a 180-gr. flat nosed cast bullet. HTH.
