Ruger Super Redhawk: Silhouette ready or waste of time?
« on: June 08, 2005, 02:00:47 PM »
Does anyone shoot a SRH in IHMSA? I've seen them used for $350 in the 9.5" barrel and they look perfect for handling both scope and iron sight categories, but I've never read of any being used-- plenty of info on DW's and FA's but none on the Big Red, why is that?

Shoot what you brung is what we always say.  Typically the trigger of the SRH can not be lightened as nicely as a DW or FA.  They are a very stout and reliable revolver.  Also the ruger sights are not as repeatable.  If you could fit one with a bomar (now allowed) it would greatly improve the sight issue.  If using a scope it would put it in the unlimited any sight class UAS where you would be competing with TC's, XP's, Rampro's, HS precision etc. but hey, you are only competing against others in yourself and others in your class.

It really depends on what your personnal goals are for the gun.  If you are wanting to make INT and be competitive then there is no sense in getting anything other than an FA.  If you want to shoot and have a good time on a budget then the SRH is fine.  If you want to see Silly Wet done right go to Grants Pass JCSA as they are one of the few that is growing therefore they must be focusing on the right stuff.
