Hi everyone new to the board.  What factory rifle cartridge combo  would you recommend for someone new to the sport?  Would a ruger #1 270 be all right for starters? only non mag I own.  Scope power and brand recomendations.

                                              thanks 7imp

Since you already have the #1 and want to try the game, bring it to a match and have fun. It isn't the best choice but that isn't really important until you decide whether you want to join the rest of us lunatics on a regular basis! If you make that choice after using your #1 at a couple of matches, by that time you'll have a pretty good idea of what you want.

If you don't have a scope on it now and want a silhouette scope, the most useful scope would be IMO a Leupold 6.5-20x40mm with target knobs. If you don't stay with silhouette, that's a little much -- but still pretty good -- for field use on a .270.

I’d be tempted to go along to a shoot and have a look at what gear people are using.  The ultimate choice would be determined by budget and recoil sensitivity.  If you really take to it and want to shoot it budget will come second.
