Marine cleared over Falluja death

A US marine filmed shooting an injured Iraqi in Falluja acted in self-defence and will not face a court martial, a Marine Corps investigation has found.

The five-month investigation found that the shooting had been "pretty much consistent with the established rules of engagement", a spokesman said.

Video of the killing last November, which was taken by a US cameraman, was flashed around the world.

It came during a bloody operation to recapture the rebel-held city.

In sworn statements, the unnamed marine corporal said he had shot three insurgents in self-defence in the mosque on 13 November, believing they posed a threat to him and his fellow marines.

Cameraman Kevin Sites said in his weblog account of the shooting that the marine could have legitimately believed the man posed a danger but he asked whether standards had been lowered.

I think most of us would have reacted like that Marine did and I am glad he was cleared of the charges!  :P  Just goes to show how the liberal media can affect our lives.  :x

I think the soldier did right, he felt threatened and reacted properly, that's war folks.  Not pretty, people get killed, kill or be killed, that's the situation.  Been there done that, would have done the same thing.  Glad I did not have a Civilian cameraman filming my troops, he might have lost his camara.  Civilian camaramen don't belong on the battlefield.  Too much information is not good, because no two individuale look at something the same way.  Take the view we all saw on TV of this incident.  I saw the man on the floor as a threat.  He was alive, he could have a granade hidden on his person and just waiting for some soft hearted soldier to get close enough so he could be assured of killing the soldier when pulling the pin.  Remember folks these are radical extreamist looking for ways to become martyrs.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Dead On.

 :?
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

I am a liberal, and know this was the correct decision.  In Viet Nam my platoon sergeant, with 3 tours, had a saying to live by;

“In combat, a second thought is a second lost, you can be dead in less”.

I am grateful that those, with the luxury of time and distance, did not second-guess him, he will being do that him self, for a very long time.

Those scumbags are the ones that "lowered the rules of engagement" Some Marines had been injured or killed trying to help some of the wounded enemy, because they had gernades or weapons. That kind of crap only happens a couple times and then they get what those scumbags got. A bullet to brain. No different from the enemy that raised white flags and then shot US troops once they were exposed to take the prisoners. After that, white flags ment nothing either. Not by our doing. They made the rules then cried about it. TFB!!

Maybe you just think your a liberal :?: :?: :?: I wonder about anyone who post at a gun site and says he likes guns being a liberal. Thats more like a oxymoron. You may lean to the left more than we do in your views but I find it hard to believe you are a true liberal as most of them hate guns, hunting, and other things we talk about here. OR are you a spy?  8)  8)  8)

I hope the Marine involved, along with others that read this, know that most of us feel a promotion is in order.  Thanks to all of our servicemen and women over there, please know that we here at home appreciate your efforts.

Nope I am a liberal, at least according to our political leadership.

Abortions, if you are opposed, then do not have one.

Gay marriages, if you are opposed, do not wed someone who is gay.

Gun control, keeping guns from known offenders is not a bad idea, some gun laws make sense, and most do not.

Creationism, lets teach all the myths, why stop at the Bible?

“In God We Trust” is only a fiscal policy now

“One Nation Under God” patriotism and national loyalty do not require the divine.

School prayer, go ahead, and just do not insist we all join in.

Ten Commandments, hey there are 603 more in the Bible, why stop at ten?  What about other scriptures?

Taxes, society should care for the needy, not hope that trust fund babies will do it with there tax cuts.

War, go per the Constitution, not at the direction of one person, or group.

Thinking one philosophy is always right or always wrong is just silly.

Most people forget that liberal doesnt necessarily = democrat & republican dont mean conservative. Thats one of the things binding up our country like a bad case of constipation. It was a long time ago but I remember liberal Republicans & conservative democrats.

I agree with Fe on alot of things, just not all of them. I think anyone oughtta be able to do just about whatever they want, so long as its legal.
I just dont think we need to reright the dictionary or change the laws to do it.
Homosexuals can do whatever they please with their bodies but they cant be man & wife, not my fault.
Just the way it is & all the legislation in the world wont ever make it any different, call it nature if you want.  :) One of them 603 comandments Fe reffered to commanded the Isrealites to stone to death any man who entered another man. I think they'v come a long way & oughtta be happy that law aint on the books anymore.
Not that I wish them harm mind you, as I said, to each his own, but I will call a spade a spade.

never made sense to me why he was charged in the first place. reminds me of a Gen. MacArthur quote, upon entering  front line area in New Guinea.

soldier; " the area isn't secure Sir, we shot a Jap sniper not more then 5 minutes ago"

Mac; well good son, good. thats the best thing to do with them!"
" oh we didn't sink the bismarck, and we didn't fight at all, we spent our time in Norfolk and we really had a ball. chasing after women while our ship was overhauled, living it up on grapefruit juice and sick bay alcohol"

...Lety's analyze;

Abortion: if you are opposed, don't have one ( but don't bother those who do)

Gay marriege: if you're opposed , don't marry a gay. (but don't bother the gays that do marry)

Murder: If you're opposed, don't murder ( but don't bother those that do murder)

Child molestation: If you're opposed, don't molest children ( but don't bother child molesters)

Same for muggers, bank robbers, car theives  etc etc....

Sure sounds like more "liberal logic" to me...
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)
