Is the Millet adjustable rear sight compatible with the front sight on a Handi?

Oh well, according to my calculations, the Millet sight is compatible with my 30-30 Handi barrel. So I ordered one.

I mounted the Millet rear sight today with the aid of a small metal file which I had to use on the dovetail to make it possible to lighly tap the sight into position on the barrel. The enclosed instructions indicated this action might be necessary. After tightening two small allen screws on top of the sight to finish securing it, I reassembled my 30-30 to check it out, and was pleased find the sight picture to be a clear improvement over the original sight.

Now, it's time to go make some noise.  8)

While attempting to fine tune the Millet sight, I discovered it wasn't compatible with the original front sight after all. I had depressed the elevation adjustment screw until it stopped turning, and I was still hitting 4" high at 25 yards with a 6 o'clock hold.

I then took the rifle barrel to the gun smith at the new Gander Mountain store here in Terrible Town (Terre Haute) to have him correct this compatibility problem. We decided the Marble's Uni-Ramp fibre optic front sight would be the solution, but the first Uni-Ramp sight he ordered was deformed. So, he ordered another one, which was also deformed. This, of course took about ten days ordering time.

Since we were both disgusted with what would normally have been a ten minute job lasting over two weeks, the gun smith just took one of the Uni-Ramp front sights off a rifle on the sales rack and put it on my barrel.

When I returned to the range, I was able to zero the rifle without encountering anymore unpleasant surprises. Plus, the fibre optic front sight improved acquisition time.
