Beretta Neos?
« on: January 13, 2004, 02:45:37 AM »
I am looking to buy a semi-auto .22 rimfire handgun. I am interested in using it for plinking and getting started in bullseye shooting. I don't want to spend too much money though in case I decide that I don't like bullseye and just want to use it for plinking. I was looking at the Beretta Neos with a 6" barrel. Does anyone have any experience with this gun, is it accurate enough for bullseye, are there any common problems with them? Are there any other guns that are not real expensive that would be good to get started in bullseye with? Thank in advance.

Take a look at the Beretta Forum.  There is a new string discussing this.

I was aghast to read in several reviews that the trigger is absolutely horrible. Don't buy it.  Try one of the Browning Buckmarks instead.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!  Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Neos. I bought one brand new because I thought it was a neat looking piece, and after all it is a Bretta. Wrong decision. It was the worst piece of junk I have ever owned. The trigger is horrible, both in design and in function. I saw on some other forums how to jury rig the trigger with a homemade tool and a spring out of a bic lighter. Then I decided I 'aint' paying that much for a new gun then have to start trying to re-engineer it with junk. At least with Ruger there are many quality aftermarket parts you can use to modify it to suit your purposes, or it will serve well from the box. I guess I need to just tell you what I think and quit trying to candy coat it so much---Hunh?
The Lord didnt create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close. :D

I strongly second what Arco Nudo said.  You will never be sorry if you get a Buck Mark.  I would recommend the Standard with the 5 1/2" barrel.  It is moderately priced and is a little better looking than the Camper.

I have a Neos and I do not agree with twodollarpistol.  The Neos is an interesting pistol and except for the trigger, which is easily fixed, it is a well built accurate pistol.  That being said, I still would highly recommend the Buck Mark.  I would even recommend the Buck Mark ahead of any of the Rugers.  That's not meant as a dig against Rugers ( I have lots of them too), I just think the Buck Mark is the all around best for what you have in mind.

i just purchased a U22 Neos 6.0 Inox last night and first impressions are true to most of the reviews i have read so far.  seems to be very comfortable to shoot, very accurate, but the trigger did give me some problems.  it seemed to get hung up often and was hard to pull at times.  i gave it a good cleaning after about 300 rounds last night and am going to give it another workout this weekend and see if the trigger smooths out at all.
