SA Mil-Spec v.s. G.I. ?
« on: May 14, 2005, 08:59:47 PM »
I know my next gun is going to be my first 1911. So my question is should I get the Springfeild Armory Mil-Spec or G.I. model? The gun will be in stainless. I will be carrying it around a ranch in a flap holster and using it to shoot(or shoot at anyway) varmints. It will also be used for protection while camping and hiking and occasional plinking. I want a VERY rugged, reliable, and accurate gun. I will make no modifacations to the gun other than a WWII style wide spur checkered hammer.
Which one has the better features for my uses? Thankyou

This sounds just like an old post we got some weeks back.

Any-how, I would say that the mil-spec has better sights thats about it. But if it is the WWII look you are after, I would go GI. They come with some really nice GI grips, and, they do make a SS model. Here it is.

That pretty.

Here is the SS MIL-SPEC.

Both are fine guns.

I was trying to decide between those two a couple weeks ago.  I went ahead and got the GI model, parkerized, and I love that gun!  It just feels and shoots awesome!! It has also fed everything I have put in it to date.  You can't go wrong with the GI, especially carrying it around on the ranch and camping and such.
