Anybody with Wildey experience?
« on: May 16, 2005, 04:30:12 PM »
I've read some older articles that mentioned the Wildey pistol has a nasty tendency to eject brass in such a way that it gives the shooter quite a rap on the forehead. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with the Wildey and could comment on this. Has Wildey remedied the problem? Was the problem not that widespread to begin with? Once the gas operating system is adjusted how reliable is the pistol?
Peace through superior firepower.

I didn't know anybody actually shot Widley pistols. I thought they were all bought as collector items to be put away and not shot.  That's what most owners seem to do with them.

I considered a Wildey, along with an Auto Mag. I believe it was someone on this forum that had alot of trouble with functioning/parts breakage with the Wildey. The Auto Mag is more of acollectors item, so I stopped looking for one of those. I did find an LAR Grizzly in 45 Win Mag. IT's accurate, reliable and powerful, also out of production. If you want a powerful semi-auto, you might try a Grizzly. I bought it in 04, and called the company and bought 2 magazines and a holster, so some parts are available. Here in the peoples republic of Illinois we can use a handgun for Deer, but not a semi-auto. No real excuse for buying it,just a toy.

I have a 475 Wildey with a 10 inch barrel. It has been a real pain to get to shoot well. I put it away after sending it away to the factory 3 times to correct the front sight. It always shot a foot high at 25 yards with the rear sight all the way down. It was grouping well but not as well as my 480 Ruger or 454 so it has been put away for about 3 years. I have not reallly had much luck with it or liked it as well as the revolvers. My Grizzly 50A&E , 44 mag, 357mag and 45 win mag and the Desert Eagles in the same calibers are much better guns to my opinion. However, none of them are as good ar work as well or as versitle as the revolvers ( again just an opinion don't mean to offend anyone).

I've worked in the gun business for 10 years and I can tell you they have an excellent receiving department! Shipping needs a little work though.
