Nothing ridiculous about it. You can not compare the value of the out of production 7x57 barrel to a currently produced 7-08 barrel. That would be like trying to compare a 1957 Chevy or Ford to current produced car. A collector of rare cars would just laugh at you. A classic, hard to find item is the same all over, valuable. I understand the shooter who would not invest $250.00 in a used barrel. AND I also understand the shooter who will. Go buy the 7-08 if that will provide what you need, but don't degrade a person who can appreciate the rare item for what it is.

Youngins: I dropped a $125 bid on this when it was first listed knowing it wouldn't stand long. Two saying come to mind "A man with money in the bank, he absolutely won't  spend, may as well be poor" and "A fool and his money are soon parted".  Funny part is that every once in awhile someone will find a complete 7X57 Handi used, and that's about what it sells for a used Handi. I go to a farm sells every once in awhile and you better be an informed buyer. I've seen items go up for auction and sell for more than you can buy new for, so much for the competitive nature of people. Just think...if this seller had  no use for the whole rifle in 7 x 57 he could now buy 3 more barrels from the factory that he could use ....a threefer ain't a bad deal  8) ....

If I had a 7X57 barrel, It would go to E-Bay in about 30 min.
 If I wanted a7X57 barrel, Get a 7-08  I think would do every

Your so right guys, the 7x57 is a classic that cannot be replaced by newer calibers,
and yes, I do like mine, a lot!!!....<><.... :grin:  :grin:

Wouldn't it be nice if H&R could find a cache of 7x57 barrels!!!

People: Remember when Ruger discontinued the old true single action and went to the New Model. I layed back several of the old ones back. Guess at least I didn't lose money on them. That is exactly what happened to me when I bought the Handi in the 7X64 Brenneke. I thought I made a wonderful buy for the price. I asked on this board what it was worth and that was what I had paid...

Now Duce, if you had saved a few of the old Ruger Flatop models Like the .357 Mag I bought when I was 18 and regrettably sold :( , they would be worth some money today to a Ruger collector. I still have a new unfired Ruger Bearcat, in the box with papers, that I bought for my son when he was born over 30 years ago. It might be worth something to a Ruger collector....<><.... :grin:

I still have my old Ruger flat top 357 w/4-5/8 barrel that I bought in 1966 :mrgreen: Still shoots like a champ too ....it's all original...never did have the free safety-azation done on it by the factory....and everybody knows ya don't carry it with a round under the hammer.... :roll: it was the first caliber that I started hand loading for that year too using a tong tool...man..you load up a box of 50 and you thought you had done something.... :) Actually...you really did!! :-D  :-D

Daedeye, I think I bought mine in 1963-64 and I loaded for it with a Lee Loader. I still have the Lee loader and it works great. I loaded some of those .360 DW brass you sent me with it. I wish I still had the gun, sounds just like yours. And I have not forgotten you on the .308 bullets buddy. All the promises I get from guys to mould some bullets from this custom set of moulds has fizzled out. I may end up sending you the mould to use for a while if you can get someone to make you up a bunch of bullets from it....<><.... :grin:

LOL...don't worry about those bullets Andy...one of these days ok...no biggie...enjoy the brass with my compliments...was my pleasure.Although I have been toying with the idea of starting to learn to cast....I was also thinking of getting in on that mold group buy for the 357 bullets...sounds like a good one...but I don't even have a set up so why buy a mold??? :-D   :-D  Looks like your 300 guess might be spot on acccording to like2hunts latest post! :wink:

Well i just got in from church and I knew that this auction would end while I was there but I never figured it to go over $300. Ole ironduke musta wanted this one pretty bad to pay as much for a single barrel as what most GOOD used guns for. I wonder......is it new record for a single barrel sale?
Got my eye on the 44 Mag and 450 Marlin barrels now. Looks like they're gonna go for a decent price too. Nowhere near $306.25 tho.

You never really know for sure what they will fetch...sort of like sharks swimming around...they can go into feeding frenzy' pretty easy...and for no good reasons as well...I hope you get one of them you have your eye on...
