I recently bought a new T/C factory 17hmr barrel.  It is 21" long.  Does anyone know the twist rate of these barrels?

I think TC uses a 1 in 10 twist on both the HMR & the Mach II.

I also recently got a 21" T/C carbine barrel in 17 HMR but havn't tried it yet.   I'm wondering what kind of accuracy I can count on @ 100 yds. Will it do 1" or better or do I need a custom barrel to get that?

My 23" barrel is boringly consistent with dime sized 5 shot groups all day long at 100 yards using 17 grain ammo.  20 grain opens up to about quarter size.

I have found the same thing as Keith with my 23" barrel. The 14" will almost out shoot it though. Both mine really like the federal 17 gr. V-max much better than anything else.

My 14 inch odes a good job as well.  I am a much better shot with a rifle than a pistol, and as a result if I am not fully on my game I have more flyers.  Like most of what is in my safe I have guns that out shoot me.

Ungodly boring to shoot my 23 inch bull barrel....shoots 3/4 inch groups all day long with Hornady 17 V-maxes....when I get bored, I shoot the CCI HPs and they make you work real hard for a one inch group...That's the only ammo that I can find locally.

I was just looking on the TC website. I can't find any info on the .17hmr factory barrels. Where are you guys finding them? How do the get around the centerfire/rimfire dilemma? Just curious as I'm wanting an HMR, and would love it to be for my Encore. Thanks in advance, John

I was wondering what the centerfire/rimfire delema was until I finished your post.  All three of my factory .17 barrels are Contender barrels.  No delema there:  just flip the selector.  Encores however...

 ohhhhh...ok...didn't realize you guys were talking contenders. Thats why I couldn't find any hmr info for the Encore.
