Had great time at my first mortar shoot !
« on: May 23, 2005, 04:48:08 AM »
My son and I had a great time at the NSSA big mortar shoot in Winchester last friday. Thanks to Pat kelly for letting me be his guest! It was my first time ever at a NSSA skirmishers shoot and I can see how one would get hooked doing it. I especially enjoyed seeing the big 8 Inch mortar owned by Charlie Smithgall the "Commander". The repeaters Henry rifle shooting looked fun also. Now all I have to do is find a  mortar ( I want a 1861 style 10 inch) of my own so I can join the fun. I'm hoping there's someone out there who's tired of lugging around their 3000lb's of iron who might sell it for a reasonable price? I know, fat chance of that, but I can always dream?

I'm glad you braved the rain!  (some of us wimped out)

There's nothing quite like the smell of powder and the shock wave from the BIG bore's!
