For me it would be a no brainer. Get the Marlin. But dat's me. If I got a Winchester it would have to be a pre 64 one and I really just don't think they are worth what folks want for them these days. You can pick up a used one of either for under $250 most of the time. In fact I picked up a Marlin Glenfield that may have not even been fired some while back for barely over $200 with a scope mounted on it. I've not even fired it but figured it was too good a deal to pass up.

I've got to second the vote for the Marlin.  They are easier than a Winchester to disassemble and clean. Most Marlins, that I have had experience with, shoot better than a lever is supposed to.

I dunno, I have 5 winchester lever actions and prefer them over the Marlin.  I have had Marlins and they are good rifles, but I just prefer the feel and looks of the Winchester.  3 of the 5 are Big Bore 444s and the other two are 30-30s. I can't recall one being any more accurate, reliable or functional than the other.  HTH Mikey.

I would go with the Marlin.  I have never had a problem with mine.  Plus I have just seen too many of the 94's jam up too many times, throw out an extra bullet under the loading mechanisim while chambering a round, to want to spend my money for one.  But hey this is just my experiance.  I hope you enjoy what every you get!  Good luck

I've had both and have had good and bad, but the Winchester seems to be more variable, at least in the modern guns.  The Marlin makes for a neater scope mount, but the Winchester carries better in the hand, without a scope.  Whichever one you get, practice, practice, practice!

You cant go wrong with either one , take the one that feels best. the marlin 336 comes in stainless and it looks like a sweet rifle.
