I didn;t mention the .357 max because he dosn't reload, If he did the Max would be perfect, almost no recoil to speak of and the ballistics are right with a .35 Remington, Plenty good deer medicine out to 150.

I will tell you something thou Muddy.... if you are recoil sensitive DO NOT use the hornady light magnums. They are grreat shooting rounds, but, the muzzle blast is impressive to say the least and the recoil is more than any .243 has the right to have no other load, factory or hand rolled has near the blast of those things. 8)

There is a major difference between being recoil sensative...and worrying about having  detatched retinas...so somehow...I don't believe he will or should  be even considering using anytype of magnum rifle  load...

Muddy05... I had no idea of your condition when I gave my vote for the 30-06 to you...as much as I would love to see you have a great Handi rifle in a superb deer cartridge such as the 30-06...I cannot suggest you use any shoulder fired rifle...especially when it comes to the real possiblity of losing the sight in one or both of your eyes as a result of doing so...

So...I going to suggest a different alternative...one that I wouldn't  otherwise ever make...look at the Thompson Contenders...seriously...don't run the risk of perminent blindness...if your in a degenerative state with your retina's...any sudden shock could cause them to detatch...so...please...consult with a opthomoligist before undertaking any of this.....and firing a hand rifle while not as enjoyable as a true shoulder mounted rifle may not appeal to you...at least you can participate in the sport without running the risk of hurting your eyes...

Thank all of you for your replies and thanks for all the info on the recoil issue. Im so glad I joined this sight. I've been checking it out almost everyday for the last year but just have become a member   :? !! Why I waited so long I dont know but this is an awesome sight. Back to the Handi's - I started a forum about 64gr .223 but was convinced that they may not work to well in a handi because of the twist. Should I still give it a try before I try the .243?? Thanks again! And i will not shoot anything magnum except .22 mag!  :(
Go 214th!!
