Spinning reel opinions
« on: December 12, 2004, 11:39:25 AM »
I need to buy another reel and want one with the live bait feature. My considerations are these.

Penn Live liner
Shimano  bait runner
Okuma epixor
Shimano thunnus

I know these vary in price a fair bit. I will be using 15-20 Lb test line much of the time. My primary targets are  cat fishing and my regular visits to the Florida Keys fishing for whatever I can catch. If you have experience with any of these reels please share your feelings.

I have the Shimano Baitrunner. Its the 3500 model. It hold 185 yards of 14 lb test line. This is the smaller of the two I lloked at but its still a CHUNK of a reel. I got it for Channel cats in the Red River of the North. It works great and I would recommend it highly. You can flip the baitrunner off manually or it will go auto with one turn of the handle.

I got a second spool for it so I could load one with lighter line for Walleyes. Ihave also used the Shakespear model. Its quite a bit cheaper but not as smooth.
shot placement is everything.
