Is $1 a lb for 22 lbs of zinc and $7.70 flat rate postal shipping too much too pay for Zinc?

That comes to roughly $1.35 a lb shipped.

Does this stuff come in ingots? It would be very convenient where I could just drop it in a melting pot rather than struggle to cut it up. If the opinions are postive, please add the contact info for the supplier. I'm planning to try zince casting later this month and had been planning to check scap yards. It might be a good to begin with quality zinc rather than hunks of unknown provenance.

That is a pretty good net price.  The bars are cast ingots which (from memory, I'll check tonight with a tape measure) are about 4" wide, 2" thick and 30" long.  They are divided into three or four pieces and would have to be cut in half at least to fit in the USPS $7.70 box.

More accurate details later tonight.--The ingots Evil Dog bought and split with me are 25" long by 2 1/2" wide by 1 1/2" thick and are divided into 4 sub-pieces, each between 6" and 6 1/2" long.

Nope, not anodes.  They are ingots.  I'm the one that bought them.

No, no Gentlemen the ones I am asking about are zinc anodes, not ingots.  Buck a pound plus shipping 22 lbs will fit in a flat rate box. About $1.35 a pound, is that to much?

That is about what we paid for the ingots.  Besides, how much is too much is something you have to decide.

The way I look at it is anything less than $1.84 a pound is cheaper than melting pennies.  There are 184 pennies to the pound.

Okay fellows the guy has about 500 lbs of these zinc anodes to sell. He   is asking  $1 a pound plus shipping.  He says he can get 22 lbs in one of the post office flat rate boxes.  If you are interested drop me a PM and I will give you his email so you can make contact.

See if you can get some idea of the chemistry of them (are they pure 99.99% zinc or do they have some other components?)

Double D gave me the address and here's the seller's description:

"They are all Mil.Spec. 18010 which is around 99.7% pure zinc."

Double D,

I'll bet that the 2nd picture was the lead. I've seen that figuring on my cannonballs when the mold was too cold which would be likely on the first cast.

I decided not to pay attention to the scale. Anybody doing the quiz could have easily adjusted it to create a false clue. At least, being a tricky fellow - I would have.
