I get 200 yard groups around 1.5" with the factory loads (best has been the Hornady factory loaded 55 grain VMax).  I just got my barrel late last summer and handloads were getting in the ~ 1" range at 200 yards, but haven't tried many variations yet.  I know it will do better since I haven't hardly tried load variations yet.

I have the 26" heavy 223 barrel also, and it will shoot 3/4 at 200 yards.  I found that the bullet weights from 50-55 have been best in it when seated out to almost touch the lands (powder was BLC-2).  I don't remember my charge weight, still have my notes packed away.

As for a 243, I really don't know.  I am getting a custom later this year in 26", cannot wait.

When I purchased my Encore it was with the 22.250.  I could not get factory ammo to shoot under 2.25" on my best day.  I ended up sending it back to TC and it came back a shooter.  Said they re-crowned it and lapped the barrel.  It shot .5-.75" groups with Rem. factory 55gr.  I'm now working up a load for it and it looks very promising.  The first loads that I have tried shot .75 but I feel that when I hit the 'sweet spot' it will do better.  Additionally, I have a custom barrel from VV (257 wby) and I'm really having difficulty getting it to perform.  1.25 being the average although I continue to try different loads, etc.  If I had it to do over I would have gone with factory but just had to scratch that itch.  Good luck.

I have one and I must say I love it. I know it is not no VV but let me tell you with a little load work and case prep I have a FACTORY barrel that will shoot a nice 7/16 at 100 yds....
I also have a 223 in the factory 24" that is a little better it gets just over 3/8" at 100 yds...
I have 4 barrels and the worst one shoots 3/4" group
I also have a 45 cal muzzel loader which I am getting about 1" to `1.5" at 100 yds
So save yourself a little money and buy the factory if it is not right Thompson dispite all people say will stand behind it all the way........
