Winchester Model 70 with a Mannlicher stock ?
« on: December 10, 2005, 09:55:07 AM »
My cousin has a Winchester Model 70 .30-06 Springfield with a full-length Mannlicher stock on it.  He inherited it from his uncle.  I got the serial number off of it a couple of years ago, but can't find it at the moment.  Without the serial number, I am guessing this gun is 30-40 years old and I don't think this was a factory, custom-ordered rifle either.

Anyone ever heard of Winchester making Mannlicher stocks for Model 70s, or  is the stock an after-market put on later?  I can't seem to find any info on this.  Any help is appreciated.

I posted about the same time as you did.  I don't know very much about Winchester's, However I was looking thru the "Modern Gun Values" volume that I have, trying to find the answers to my question and found this about yours.

Winchester Model 70 Mannlicher

Same specs as Model 70 (1964-1971) except 243,220,30'06,308.  19" barrel: checkered Mannlicher stock with Monte Carlo Comb, cheekpiece, steel forearmcam introduced 1969; discontinued 1972.
Perf.: $695  Exc.: $595  VGood: $495

Hope this helps.

Thanks UtahMike, this was the information I needed.  I thought that barrel was a little shorter than usual, I'll check it out more carefully next time.  It's a nice looking rifle.
