Anyone bringing an USH?
« on: May 30, 2005, 04:57:40 PM »
Just had a thought, anyone of you lucky guys going the the PD shoot bringing a slug gun? An USH in either 12 or 20 gauge out to about 100 yards would be fun and even a smoothbore out to about 50 or 60 yards would be different....<><....

I really don't have a problem with anyone bringing any gun that they want.  BUT, I would prefer if your main rifle was a .22 centerfire (or even a .244 cal).

The reason is, with the larger caliber guns (.30 cal and larger), you are more likely to have a riccochet.  There will be some farm houses and/or barns around this area, and the more riccochet's we have, the more likely we are to hit one of them.

So, if you want to pop a few with your pet .308, or even your 45/70, I have no problem with that, just make it limited rounds down range.  Besides, believe me, you're not going to want to shoot prairie dogs all day with a 45/70

MSP ret since you brought this slug gun thing up my friend is letting me take his pardner 10 gauge turkey gun with us  . A load of 2 oz of # 4's might be fun or if I can find some buckshot or # 2's will be interesting to  :)  It will also be useful in dispatching any wounded p dog's quickly very quickly  :D

Guys, you realize that most of the time, a prairie dog isn't going to need to be dispatched with a second shot.

Prairie dogs are either red mist, or they're back into their hole.
