Good news & bad news:
Which do you want first?
Okay, the bad news. My daughter was supposed to drop off the reeds at the post office on her way home from school last week. Guess what she found inside her back pack this morning? She's been pulling her hair out over her "honors english" class lately, so I wasn't hard on her at all. Poor kid has been working her tail off to bring up her grades. I figured I'd better get my butt over to the library and let you know.
Anyway, that's going to be taken care of today. Sorry.
I listened to the "Colorado Springs Big Jazz Band" again on Wednesday night. I think I may eventually be able to play with them? Anyway, I've mainly been doing some networking - saxwise. I've hooked up with a guy who has 30 years experience on the horn and likes to hang out and talk vintage saxes. He's been pro for many years, and has been recorded also. He checked out my horn, and said, "Dang, that horn is meant to be played.....I mean played until you sweat! That's what it was made for."
Hehe....never had anyone tell me that before. I enjoyed hearing him say that. Maybe I'll go and pay him a visit on Saturday.
We are also visiting a new church that has services on Saturday evenings with a contemporary praise band. I haven't heard them yet, but I'll know more after Saturday evening. Who knows, maybe I can contribute there also?
Oh heck, since you guys have been so patient on the reeds, I'm going to throw in some Alexanders also. I'll have to re-open the envelopes, but hey, good things are worth waiting for, and they are FREE right? Besides, Joel doesn't have his horn yet anyway? Maybe it's just "meant to be" this way?
Joel:
I never criticize a horn I haven't heard or played. Who knows, maybe you're getting a real "player" with this purchase. Do you really want my Otto Link? I'd be willing to trade for a "good" Alto mouthpiece with a #7 facing, but it would have to be a brand that is notorious for sounding good.
Curtis:
I've got three reed holders, so I can't see me needing another, but THANK YOU for the offer though. I've got reeds all over the place because I'm still trying to settle into what works best with the new Meyer.
It's starting to look like Alexander 2.5s are going to do the trick. I still remain pleased with their quality and sound, but the #2s were too soft and led to many squeaks and squeals. The 2.5s aren't doing that. I also got a box of Alexander DC #3s. They sound good also, but lack the "buzz" of the #2.5 Superials.
You like them silver keys huh? How about an all silver sax? My horn also came in a silver model. You should look at the vintage horns when you get time. You get ALOT of horn for a lot less money.
Oh, and check this out. I finally got the guts to try and repad my own sax. I re-did the three palm key pads. It was too easy! For real. I saved about $20 over what a guy was going to charge me. Since that worked well, I am going to do the octave key and and the Eb key also. The store is charging me $2.00 for each pad, which is VERY expensive in my opinion, but they would charge much more to do the work also, so I still save plenty.
